The Blood, Sweat and actual Tears of Craft Fairs

If you’ve ever walked through a craft fair with a warm coffee in your hand, admiring the tidy booths and smiling makers, I have a secret for you: We are all running on caffeine and sheer determination. 😆

I’ve been doing this for a while now under The Eclectic Studio, and let me tell you, the “hustle” is real.

The 11:59 PM Prep

It doesn’t matter if I start prepping three weeks or six weeks in advance—without fail, I am up until midnight for days leading up to a show. There is the inventory to finish, the signage to check, the bags to pack… and then the physical workout begins. Loading the car, unloading the car, setting up the tent (thanks to my husband for the heavy lifting there!), and then unboxing everything myself because, let’s be honest, I like it done my way!

It’s weeks of soul-pouring work for a single 8-hour window. And sometimes? Nobody shows up. Sometimes I don’t sell a single thing. The work is the same regardless of the outcome.

Why I Still Say “Yes”

So why do I keep doing it? It’s the connection.

I love that moment when someone stops at my booth, looks at a hand-sewn item or a piece of glassware, and it stirs something in them. I’ve stood in my booth crying with total strangers as they share their life stories with me. I’ve over funny memories.

Plus, I get to hang out with my husband for the day! I wouldn’t trade them for anything.

Being the “Outcast”

When I transitioned The Eclectic Studio to be strictly faith-based—t-shirts, Bible bookmarks, paintings, all centered on Him—I knew I was narrowing my path. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, and from a “business” standpoint, it probably set me back.

But I’m not just looking to make a buck. I’m following God’s direction. If that makes me an outcast in the craft world, I am more than okay with that. I’d rather be exactly where He wants me than “successful” somewhere else.
